With the emergence of CD drives in the recent years, floppy disk drives have taken a back seat to its more practical, high-capacity counterpart. But inspite of this, floppies are still utilized from time to time most notably in the creation of emergency boot disks. The floppy drive is connected with a 34-pin cable, which in general has the same appearance with the IDE cable (usually flat, and gray) but differs in terms of the number of connectors in it and how it is used to configure the set-up of the floppy disks in the system. It has 34 wires, with normally five connectors (single connector on one end of the cable for the floppy disk controller; pair of connectors at the opposite end of the cable for the A: floppy drive; and the last pair of connectors in the middle of the cable intended for the B: floppy drive).
