Firewire, also referred to as IEEE-1394 or iLink, is a high speed and cost efficient way of connecting numerous devices to a computer or to each other. Firewire lets machines operate at up to 400 megabits per second (Mbps), allowing large amounts of data to be transferred between computers and peripheral devices such as digital video camcorders, printers, scanners, videoconferencing cameras, hard drives, and various other products. Furthermore, interconnecting two computers together through a firewire cable for high speed file sharing is now possible.
